The American Pit Bull Terrier, sometimes just called Pit Bull, is one of the most misunderstood breeds on the planet. Portrayed in the media as a vicious and dangerous dog the truth is almost always the opposite.

During its origins the Pit Bull was known as the ‘Nanny Dog’ due to its renowned ability with being gentle with children. It has only been in recent decades that this dog has been maligned due to dog fighting and other inhumane practices.

The Pit Bull comes in many varieties including the Blue Nose and Red Nose and many different sizes. Regardless of the variety most Pit Bulls are known for their athleticism and strong desire to work. Nowadays this breed can be found working in French Ring, Schutzhund, hog catching, weight pull, obedience, agility, and even some are found amongst the ranks of police dogs. It is due to extreme intelligence and athletic ability that allows this wonderful breed to excel at so many activities.

When looking for Pit Bull puppies for sale it is important to only visit reputable breeders or shelters. Many unscrupulous breeders hope to cash in on the popularity of the breed and only make money off the reputation. It is the true breeder that is focused on improving the breed and producing true ambassadors to a wonderful breed.

Most Pit Bulls take quickly to training and are eager to please their master. Early socialization is a must as it is important that this dog learn to like other members of the dog and human world from a young age.

By finding a respected breeder and engaging in solid socialization and training you will find your Pit Bull to be very well behaved.
