Whatever your feelings, there’s no question that Kimbo Slice is responsible for an uproar in the street fighting scene. The bareknuckle bouts have pleased many (and shocked all) with their brutal, gladiatorial nature. Thanks to the connection of the internet, the whisper-down-the-lane syndrome can be executed worldwide, and for an event that might happen daily in some rougher locales, the simple addition of a video camera turned the brawler known as Kimbo Slice into a contender, making his bald head and mismatched beard recognizable almost overnight.

But, for that same reason, the internet has also circulated more than its fair share of rumors about Kimbo Slice; despite the ease of “publication” on the internet, reading something in article form just makes it all seem a little more geniune, especially when it’s the only information you can find. At this point, there’s little we do know for sure: Was Kimbo ever really a convict? Is he the cousin and trainee of pretentious boxer Emmanuel Augustus? And does he rely solely on his street fighting prize money to get by?

Purportedly, the answer to all these questions is no. When you take away these elements which have contributed so much intrigue to Kimbo Slice as a character, you have to wonder if he’d really be as popular without all the internet rumors. And therefore, you have to wonder who took the time to write those fake articles and interviews, and why — if there was any reason other than for building the controversy which he converted into success.
